STD and STI tests in Rome
Sexually transmitted diseases and sexually transmitted infections can make you feel nervous, but with proper attention and care they don't have to become a big problem. If you've been exposed to an STI, it's especially important to get tested for STD in the days following exposure. Even if you have no signs or symptoms of any STDs or STIs, it's important to have an annual screening, as many of these infections are silent. Some symptoms that seem to be STDs may be another type of infection, but the only way to be certain is by getting tested.

When should I get STI tested?
When to get tested for STDs?
There are many situations in which you may want to consider getting tested. Many people think of taking an STD/STI test:

-
Upon expression of any symptoms
-
After exposure to someone who is infected
-
Following an unprotected sexual encounter
-
If they often change sexual partners
-
At the end/beginning of a new relationship
-
If they become or plan on becoming pregnant
-
As an annual check-up
Depending on your situation, you may need to get tested right away, within 72 hours, or after a few days for more reliable results. As the incubation windows of different STIs vary, it’s best to get doctor's advice about when to take your test. In any case, it’s better to err on the side of caution and get tested sooner rather than later. You can always re-test in a few weeks time if necessary.
What are some STD or STI symptoms?
Many sexually transmitted diseases and infections are silent! This means that you could have one without expressing any symptoms. This is why it's essential to get regularly checked up!
If you think you may have an STD/STI, here are some common symptoms that you may be experiencing:
-
Sores, warts or bumps on and/or near your genitals, thighs, or anus

-

What about PEP, PrEP, and ARTs?
If you plan to have sex with someone who has HIV, talk to your doctor proactively about how to get PrEP to prevent the risk of getting ill.
HIV counseling and antiretroviral treatment is available only through the public health system. If you have HIV, receive a positive diagnosis, or suspect you have been exposed to HIV, it’s important to get regularly retested and to develop a treatment plan.
